Review 66: Black Sun

Art: 8
Plot: 7
Characters: 7
Sex: 7

This is the standard ol' raping and pillaging premise that turns into a captive's love for his captor. You know, the usual. Seme takes uke captive as a prize of war, turns him into a sex slave, and then later has to protect him against jealous ukes who apparently would also like to be sex slaves. In the end, however, the uke falls for the seme despite all that has happened. Who'd have thought?

The art is quite nice, which makes this a much more enjoyable read than it could have been. The armor is stunning, as is the sort of Arabian garb many of the characters wear. The panther was also a nice touch.

The plot is very, very predictable and without any noticeable subplots. Not impressive at all. There weren't any points at which I felt particularly engaged in the story.

The characters were all right, but I found myself unable to believe that the captive uke would suddenly fall in love with the seme after what he did. Especially because said captive had been, up until his capture, a monastic knight. Meaning, completely chaste. Right.

The sex scenes were all right, but they weren't quite up to standards. Much too brief, and also too often. I felt bad for the uke... that can't have been easy to live with.

All in all, 29/40. Why do I feel like I've seen this rating a lot lately?

Recommendation: If you like the whole 'captive uke' thing.
